This is NOT the definition of Product Manager. This may be what Chesky had implemented at AirBnb, and if that's what he called "classic", that would be his misunderstanding of what Product Management is.
i.e. what PMs were doing at AirBnB was NOT product managemennt, but delivery management. i.e. working to define and development "features".
I do agree we don't need THAT. We never did. It's like a sales rep who only send out quotes, but never follows up to close them. I wrote about this topic here.
