I got a question on Linked in about what I'd do differently today, so I thought I'd add it here. Maybe I will roll this into the article above later.
1. I would try to define really clear goals of what we'll do AFTER the discovery was done. i.e. what are the steps that would need to follow the discovery work, and try to prepare for that.
2. Possibly attempt a pre-mortem to try to mitigate reasons we may not succeed.
3. Be more realistic about what was achievable across the organization. As much as being aligned across teams was lofty goal, the reality was each team had their own product objectives and those would drive behaviour and focus, more than any good intentions the org might have had.
